Title: zenbouji Temple, Pen & Ink
Size: 22" x 30"

This is a pen and ink drawing of the zenbouji Temple in Usuki, Japan. Usuki is small rural town in the southern
island of Kyushu, Japan, and is known for its many traditional temples and buddhist ruins. This particular temple
was one of my absolute favorites in the area, and I've used it in several paintings and drawings. This particular
piece is one of my favorite pen & ink temple drawings - the balance, symetry of lines and detail all work
together well.
The temple itself is found on a winding cobblestone street that is both narrow and steep, and sits in a
very tradtional, rural setting. It's in a historical district called "Nyoza" in the town of Usuki, it stands
out as one of the more prominent temples.
The lines and space in this temple are wonderful, and I could probably spend
years painting and drawing different aspects of it.
